Chief Daniel Neal (Loudoun County Fire and Rescue) will present a focused after-action review on the Dulles Town Center Mall shooting that occurred on April 2, 2023. This session will provide a detailed overview of the incident, including the sequence of events and the response to a potential act of violence. The presentation will describe key lessons learned from the event and will highlight important points from the Joint Action Guide for Acts of Violence that helped frame the multi-agency response.

Captain Joshua Burchick (Howard County [MD] Department of Fire & Rescue) will present on the research, theory, and application for mayday events. This topic will discuss metabolic data from real Mayday events, showcasing the need for physically fit and emotionally regulated firefighters, and the differences between adrenaline and physically induced stress, and the amplifying effect on the fireground.
